Chapter 6: A healthy growing baby
I made it! I finally made it into the delightful second trimester with the end of March marking 13 week milestone! It is a really happy time for me as the terrible aches, pains, dizziness, nausea and discomfort of the first trimester are now behind me! I am so happy!
At week 16, on 16th of April I had a quick check up at the midwifery unit which had me in awe again as the midwife placed the microphone thingy against my belly and I got to hear the baby’s heart beating. The little one was definitely in there, alright! James was in work at this time so I recorded it for him to hear but I also ended up sending this to all of my friends and family. Here it is below - how magical is that?

We had to have another scan at week 20 and James, who at this time had finished working away for good, was at the appointment with me. It was 17th of May and we were greeted by yet another sonographer lady who didn’t introduce herself. There was also someone else in the room taking notes and we didn’t know who that was either. It was just a little bit awkward but we were too preoccupied with the expectation of seeing the baby to really give it much thought.

The examination revealed that there were no concerns with our growing baby and we got to see the little wavy arms again! The baby was very active and kept turning ‘round and ‘round which was so amazing to watch. We both knew that it wasn’t long until the little wriggler was in our arms and in our lives forever!
Another visit at week 22 had me in the midwife's office for 10 minutes as it was a simple whooping cough injection. The midwife congratulated me on the baby bump which had begun showing and advised me that everything was in order with my bloods, blood pressure and diet. I was really happy with that but even more happy that everything was really well with the growing baby!
